Our Story

The Bio Keratin® brand was founded in 2005 by husband and wife duo John and Mary Smith. As longtime hairstylists working in an upscale salon, the Smiths were constantly seeking solutions for clients struggling with damaged, over-processed hair. They experimented with various proteins and treatments in search of an effective at-home regimen that lived up to the results of expensive in-salon processes.

After much research, the Smiths happened upon a natural keratin protein derived from wool. In tests, this unique ingredient showed remarkable ability to penetrate the hair shaft and fill in gaps and fractures. The Smiths set to work developing a line of keratin-infused products meant for daily cleansing, conditioning, and repair.

Once ready, the Smiths shared Bio Keratin® prototypes with select salon clients. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with noticeable improvements in hair strength, shine, and manageability after just a few weeks of use. Excited by the transformative potential of these products, John and Mary launched the Bio Keratin® brand out of their home in 2005.

The Bio Keratin® Difference

So what makes our natural keratin protein so unique? This revolutionary ingredient was discovered after extensive research into the building blocks of hair. We learned that keratin is an essential structural protein, making up about 90% of each hair strand. Healthy hair contains plentiful keratin packed tightly together to create strength and elasticity.

Over time, keratin bonds become damaged due to chemical treatments, heat styling, UV rays, and other environmental factors. Gaps form in the keratin networks, leading to weakened strands prone to breakage.
